THE JUSTUS choir together with the St. Lucia Arthritis and Lupus Association (SLALA) had planned a wonderful Jazz concert for the month of May, all part of the activities for Lupus Month and also to add to the calendar of Jazz activities in May. However, it would seem mother nature had her own ideas and so the event was postponed to Sunday July 3 at Belargo Park. It was then dubbed Jazz in July.
The evening was certainly filled with the beautiful voices of JUSTUS, as the audience got serenaded with many well-known jazz standards, including arrangements of ‘Misty’, ‘House of the Rising Sun’, ‘ Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me’ and ‘Moonglow’.
As usual there were lovely door prizes to be won and there was an auction of a generously donated MemeBete original handbag from local designer and Entrepeneur of the year 2016, Taribba Do Nascimento.
It would seem after all, this was the perfect date for the soiree, as it is often said nothing happens before its time, since the new date provided just the right timing for a wonderful gift from Guardian Life of the Caribbean (GLOC) which is a member of the Guardian Group which offers Health and Life insurance. This was in the form of a donation of $3000 to SLALA towards its VivByen self-management programme.
GLOC has been consistently providing support to SLALA through monetary donations and support of fund raising activities. The company has welcomed the implementation of self-management programmes in improving the health and well-being of St. Lucians.
St. Lucians are encouraged to do this wonderful self- management programme which is truly a must for anyone coping with a chronic disease (diabetes, hypertension, asthma, arthritis etc.).
