THE great and the good of Saint Lucia sports were out in force at the National Cultural Centre last past weekend as the Ministry for Youth Development and Sports held the 36th National Sports Awards.
The Minister for Youth Development and Sports congratulated every one for the effort which they had put into their respective sporting disciplines. Edward said, “You have done well. However, I must remind you that the journey has just begun. Saint Lucia, as a nation, needs its sportsmen and sportswomen to go on to excel not just at the regional level but internationally. And of course, this calls for hard work and sacrifice”.
Leading the way in the junior “Female sportswoman of the Year” title was Heptathlete Julien Alfred, while Johnnel Eugene (Cricket) made amends for last year’s narrow loss ahead of Adriel Bousquet (Tennis) to cop his first major award.
In the senior female category world ranked high jumper Levern Spencer was without a doubt the clear favourite, Spencer made it her thirteenth podium finish at the awards, while swimmer Jordan Augier won favour on the judges’ score sheet to secure the senior “Men’s sports personality of the year” award.

Northern United – Community Club of the Year 2015; Best Sporting Facility of the Year – the Phillip Marcellin Grounds, Differently abled community athlete Randy Nody Gilbert; Community Media Personality for 2015 Kenson Casimir from Helen Television System (HTS); National Coach of the Year Cassim St. Croix Louis – the St. Lucia Football Association; Most outstanding technical official Leo Clarke from the St.Lucia Football Association, Most outstanding Administrator Avery Trim of the St.Lucia Shooting Association; Most outstanding Media personality Anthony De Beauville from The VOICE;
Paulin Jameson earned and award for her ability, commitment and dedication to the St.Lucia Special Olympic BOCCE team; Joshua Henry for his dedication, sportsmanship and achievement on the track and field team; and Coach Nigella Fevrier – Barnett for her commitment and dedication to Special Olympics.
A posthumous award went to Special Olympian – Marvin Augustin Emmanuel.
Winning Teams – St. Lucia National under – 15 Cricket Team for winning the Windward Islands Winlott Incorporated Cricket Championship and was also voted the National Under – 15 Cricket team as the Team of the Year for 2015.
Posthumous Award – former national women’s cricket coach Kenneth Arthur and Rupert Polius former national cricketer and selector, while the Lifetime Award went to Elizabeth William former national cricketer and the Lifetime Achiever Award went to Ferrel “Bam” Charles a former national cricketer / fast bowler.
