A popular St Lucian sportsman and carnival reveller of yesteryear has passed away in St Croix.
Cuthbert Anthony migrated to St Croix in the 1960s. On leaving the R.C. Boys School in Castries he worked with the Customs and Excise Department as a security officer.
In his heyday, he played football for the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and later Police Sports Club when he became a member of the Special Reserve Police Force. A lover of athletics, Anthony specialized in the 4×400 relay.
Anthony also had a passion for carnival. He mastered the art and led his own carnival bands for decades winning the coveted Band of the Year title on several occasions. When he went to St Croix he took there with him his love for carnival and was involved in the annual Three Kings Day Parade in January. Of memorable note was his winning an $800 prize for his portrayal of “Bush in the White House”.
Anthony leaves behind two daughters Sabina Wilkie and Marilyn Jean Louis in St Lucia, sister Norma Raveneau and brother Hugh Anthony in New York and numerous others including Earl Lewis and family the Anthony family, the Leonce family, the Raveneau family, the Williams family, the Dubois family in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Tertullien family, the Dembow family, the Charles family, the Lynch family, the Calderon family and Monica Popo.
The funeral service for the late Cuthbert Anthony will take place in St Croix on February 18.
