ANOTHER GAS PRICE REDUCTION TOMORROW?

Rumours were flying around at the weekend that there will be another reduction in the prices of fuel products here tomorrow, Monday.

THE VOICE was unable to substantiate the reports which indicated that gasolene prices will be reduced further from $13.65 a gallon to $10.66 as of Monday. One usually reliable source confirmed, however, that instructions had gone out to gas stations about the new drop in prices for gasoline, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas.

The latest reduction on January 12 from $15.85 to $13.65 was met with criticism from the opposition United Workers Party, which contended that the drop was not enough. In fact, UWP leader Allen Chastanet would led an anti-government protest demonstration in Castries on January 29 to protest the prices among other things claimed at one time that the prices should have come down to around $10.00 a gallon.

One source told THE VOICE Sunday that the new prices have caught gas stations by surprise since they only last week purchased products at the old rates and would incur big losses with the sudden drop in rates expected to be announced Monday.

Who are they purchasing from? It’s well over six months since the price of oil has decreased significantly on the world market.
Maybe someone should remind our gas stations owners that St.Kitts has been selling gasoline for $10.75 for a few months now.
