Nobel Laureate Festival – Celebrating Excellence: Facing New Realities. Creating New Modalities

The Nobel Laureate Festival Committee announces its annual Nobel Laureate Festival. The Festival takes place from the 9th. to the 31st. of January, 2022 under the theme – Celebrating Excellence: Facing New Realities. Creating New Modalities.

The Festival is now in its 29th year, and its second year of producing a Festival that adheres to the restrictions and protocols brought about by the COVID-19 coronavirus.

This year’s programme includes: The Sir Derek Walcott Memorial Lecture, (Tuesday, 18 Jan-uary, Finance Administrative Centre, 7:30 p.m.), “The Demand of Beauty”, delivered by Saint Lucian poet and playwright, Mr Kendel Hippolyte.

The Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture, (Thursday 20 January, 7:30 p.m. – VIRTUAL PRESEN-TATION), “The Future of Economic Growth and Development: Sir Arthur Lewis in the Twenty First Century”, delivered by Dr Gervan Fearon, President of George Brown College, Ontario.

Both lectures have limited in-person attendance with COVID-19 protocols observed. The lecture will also be recorded by the National Television Network (NTN) for broadcast and YouTube, and transmission on Facebook Live.

The Festival begins with the Annual Church Service at the Abbey of Our Lady of the Assumption, Mount of Prayer, Coubaril, Castries, followed by a sumptuous breakfast  ($40pp) catered by the Benedictine Sisters of the Abbey. (Sunday, 9 January 2022 @ 7:45 a.m & 9:30 a.m.)

Other ‘Save the Dates’ events include:

“Celebrating Excellence”, 4-minute videos aired on HTS starting Monday, 10 January at 8:00 p.m. Guests: Ms Natalie La Porte, actor, Mr Earl Bousquet, Chairman of the Saint Lucia National Reparations Committee, Mr Jallim Eudovic, sculptor, and Dr Clarence Henry, OECS Commission.

The Saint Lucia National Archives Authority, Vigie – Nurturing old talents – discovering new ones”. Launch: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday 19 January; remains open to the public until 31 March.

Other events on the Festival’s calendar include the Nobel Laureates Wreath Laying Ceremony, “WORRRD UP” Poetry Slam with SALCC Creative and Performing Arts Club, Labowi Promotions planning exercise, Paint the Village Festival with Jonathan Gladding, the Patricia Is-mond Literary Workshop offered by The Open Campus.
