WITH 118 COVID-19 deaths and 2,364 active cases of the virus in country prior to press time yesterday, health authorities are making yet another plea for Saint Lucians to vaccinate themselves against the coronavirus.
The appeal comes amid reports that Saint Lucia is on the lower end of 26 Caribbean countries when it comes to the level and rate of vaccination for COVID-19.
The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), in its September 2 report explained the low rate of vaccination in Saint Lucia was because of the low rate of doses (34.3) per 100 persons.
Out of the 26 Caribbean countries that are members of CARPHA Saint Lucia stands at number 22. The Bahamas is number 23 with 32.5 doses per 100 persons, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is number 24 with 24 doses per 100 persons, Jamaica is number 25 with 16.7 doses per 100 persons and Haiti number 26 with 0.3 doses per 100 persons.
Topping the list is the Cayman Island with 159 doses followed by Bonaire 144.1 doses and Aruba 137.3 doses.
