Over the past several weeks the Saint Lucia Sports Academy has been on a recruitment drive, across Saint Lucia.
The Saint Lucia Sports Academy opened its doors here in 2019. The school provides students with a solid foundation in academics, life-skills and of course sports – in particular, football, cricket, and track and field. Students are also exposed to off-the-field courses in areas such as coaching and media arts.
The school’s team of coaches has so far visited primary schools in Castries, Gros Islet, Canaries, Anse La Raye, Soufriere, Vieux Fort, Micoud and Babonneau.
Principal of the Saint Lucia Sports Academy, Mrs. Delia Alcindor-Charles, has described the recruitment drive as very encouraging so far. “What we have seen at the schools we have visited so far is that the students are very enthusiastic and they are showing a high level of interest in the Saint Lucia Sports Academy,” the principal says.
“One of the privileges afforded to us at this point is the ability to go out and recruit students, and so as we prepare for the next academic year, we need to reach out to the various schools to attract new students,” she went on to say.
According to Mrs. Alcindor-Charles, the Saint Lucia Sports Academy, with the assistance of the teachers and coaches at the various schools, provided students with as much information on the SLSA, so as to help them make an informed decision.
The intention is to motivate as many students as possible into making the Saint Lucia Sports Academy their choice ahead of the sitting of the Common Entrance Exams.
Coach Victor Cornibert of the Saint Lucia Sports Academy says that the recruitment drive seeks to attract at least three students from each school to make up the Form 1 intake for the new school year 2021/2021. “So far this recruitment drive has been a success as we have been able to identify quite a bit of talent,” he says.
The recruitment initiative takes interested students out onto playfields (Covid-19 protocols observed) where their skill level is tested in the areas of football, cricket and track and field.
Minister for Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development Hon. Dr. Gale Rigobert says that the overall intention is that the Saint Lucia Sports Academy becomes the school of choice for students seeking to enhance their sporting career. The recruitment drive she says will also create more awareness about the school.
The recruitment drive exercise continues this week!
