The Department of Labour, Co-operatives and Consumer Affairs is strengthening engagement with Saint Lucia’s manufacturing sector, focusing on industrial relations, fair employment practices and sustainable job creation.

The Department met with manufacturing sector representatives on October 14, to discuss industry challenges, its contribution to economic development and the importance of constructive relations among employers, workers and trade unions.

Manufacturing remains an important contributor to local production, employment and export opportunities. However, businesses continue to navigate challenges, including rising operating costs, supply chain pressures and the need to remain competitive. The discussions underscored the importance of recognizing workers’ contributions to productivity and business sustainability, while promoting safe workplaces, skills development and fair employment practices.

Deputy Labour Commissioner Nicolai Lansiquot says the department will continue working with manufacturers and other stakeholders to address workplace concerns, strengthen employer-worker relations and identify practical ways to support the sector’s continued development.

The Department emphasized that continued collaboration among government, employers, workers and trade unions is essential to resolving workplace concerns, strengthening industrial relations and supporting a resilient manufacturing sector.
