Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate, Senator Guibion Ferdinand has posed some pertinent questions to the government of Saint Lucia as teachers and students ushered in a brand-new school term on Monday.
Senator Ferdinand during the sitting of Senate on April 20, 2020, straightforwardly chastised the current government for removing the laptop program at schools and replacing them with supposed inferior e-books.
âCan a student use an e-book to do their SBAs? Can they download zoom to do their online classes? Can they access the new I.T. programming component on the e-book?â
The Leader of Opposition of Business in the Senate was also in disbelief during his presentation as he read that there was no allocation in this yearâs budget for âcomputerization of schoolsâ on the island.
Schools have been closed for almost a year, save for the few weeks of reopening only to close after COVID-19 numbers spiked. Students and teachers have had to embrace an online format of learning which has not been on the receiving end of rave reviews.
