THE Acynta Auguste Women’s 50 overs knockout competition will get underway today (Saturday 17th April 2021) with the 2019 defending champions South Castries Lionesses coming up against the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association (SLNCA) Development Team at the Mindoo Phillip Park from 10.00 a.m.
In charge of the tournament is the SLNCA, which has always been the one in charge of it. This year’s tournament will be shorter than the last one.
The Development Team will be captained by Saint Lucia and Windward Islands fast bowler, Yasmine St.Ange and will consist of players who emerged from Cricket West Indies (CWI) Under 15 Programme and Saint Lucia National Lottery (SLN) Elite Development Programme post World Cup 2018.
During the above mention programmes, the players were under the watchful eyes of Philippa Thomas – Eudovic, Wade Clovis, David Oliver and Bryan Calixte.
For South Castries Lionesses, the technical staff will select their final XI from – Ashlene Edward (captain), Nerissa Crafton (vice-captain); Zaida James; Philippa Thomas Eudovic; Leona Vitalis – Baker; Chloe Elibox; Teaddie Crawford; Krishna Joseph; Elisha James; Castelle Vitalis; Amia Polius; Cherry George; Cornilia Edmund; Sheena St.Mark, Mercrina Nelson and Verena Felicien.
Tomorrow (April 18th) one match is on the card. Gros Islet takes on Choiseul at the Piaye Playing Field.
West Indies player, Qiana Joseph will lead Gros Islet campaign against rivals Choiseul. Joseph will have alongside her, Saint Lucia opening batter and Windward Islands player, Malika Edward alongside other national players like Makada Dubois, Sunelli Doris and Skyy Smith.
The remainder of the youthful squad includes – Cian Felix, Selena Ross, Niasha Cherry, Joyann Preville, and Jewel Nelson
The tournament resumes on Saturday 24th with a double header. Gros Islet will be at home to South Castries Lionesses in what is expected to be a keenly contested encounter; while Choiseul plays the SLNCA Development Team at the Mindoo Phillip Park.
Two other matches are slated for Saturday 1st May. Gros Islet will take on the SLNCA Development Team at the Mindoo Phillip Park and South Castries plays Choiseul at the Piaye Playing Field.
The tournament will take a two-week break and will resume on Saturday, May 16th, with the third place play off at the Gros Islet Playing Field and finals at the Mindoo Phillip Park.
All matches will commence at 10.00 a.m.
