THE UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia Site hosted its inaugural virtual ceremony in celebration of students who successfully completed Continuing Professional Education (CPE) courses in Semester II, 2019/20. Under the theme ‘Celebrating Transition’, this ceremony took place on Thursday 6th August, 2020 from 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. Students were celebrated for their commitment to courses in light of the transition from Face-to-Face to Online due to social distancing protocols. This change served as one of the ways in which The UWI adhered to safety measures amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the ceremony, students received encouragement from Dr Susan Sarah Owen, Director – Continuing & Professional Education Centre who issued Greetings on behalf of her team. The Keynote Address was presented by Dr Fiona Philip-Mayer, Chief Education Officer – Ministry of Education, Innovation and Gender Relations, who implored students to be grateful to the ones who assisted in their success. Mr Ryan Byer, Deputy Director – Open Campus Country Sites was also in attendance at this inaugural ceremony.
Nearly 200 students completed courses in the following areas:
• Advanced Supervisory Management (Castries and Soufriere)
• Introduction to Quality Management Systems
• Occupational Health and Safety: Managing Safety and Fundamentals
• Project Management
• Supervisory Management (Castries and Soufriere)
This marked the first semester that The UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia conducted CPE courses online. The University will continue hosting classes online for all CPE courses starting in September, such as Introduction to Events Management, Project Management, Quality Management Systems, Supervisory management, Maintenance Management, OHS: Fundamentals, OHS: The Occupational Environment, Introduction to Counseling, Business Writing and Communication 1, Digital Marketing, Introduction to Brand Management, Effective Corporate, Creative & Luxury Branding, Conversational Spanish and Conversational Kwéyòl.
