On Wednesday July 10, 2019 about 9:30 a.m. law enforcement officials received information in relation to an assault of a male, with a cutlass, in Vieux Fort, by a uniformed police officer. Investigations were launched and the officer in question was immediately sent on leave.
On Friday, July 26, 2019, Rayian Clerice, a Police Officer, was charged for the offence of Assault in relation to the said incident. He was granted bail on his own recognizance for the charge of Assault, contrary to Section 426 of the Criminal Code.
Section 426 of the Criminal Code states;
