The Ministry of Youth Development & Sports held a conference at the Ministry’s Conference Room at the Chreiki Building on Micoud-St Castries on Wednesday, April 24th. The purpose of the conference was to announce the distinguished shortlisted nominees for the Annual Youth Awards Ceremony scheduled for Saturday, 27th April 2019, which is to be hosted at the Finance Administrative Centre at Pointe Seraphine in Castries from 7 p.m.
Present at the conference was Mary Wilfred, Director of Youth at the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports; Liota Charlemagne-Mason, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports and Flora Leonce, Information Assistant at the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports. Mary Wilfred announced that the outstanding achievements of youth during the previous year will be celebrated through nineteen award categories. Some of the categories include Outstanding Youth in Entrepreneurship, Outstanding Youth in Social Development, Outstanding Youth in Performing Arts, and Outstanding Student Council and Youth of the Year. A total of 59 nominees were shortlisted for the Youth Awards 2019.
The category for Outstanding Youth in Performing Arts contains the most nominees with a total of nine candidates, followed by the category for Outstanding Youth Organization with seven nominees. Nominees are selected only if they meet the criteria of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, in which ethical behaviour is a major factor. Liota Charlemagne-Mason, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Youth Development is part of the Ministry’s incentive for preparing young people for leadership positions, and for creating role models for the nation’s youth. Mary Wilfred stated that young persons were instrumental in planning the programme for the event, and therefore will be the ones involved in the presentations.
