PRESS RELEASE – TEACHERS from nine secondary schools recently participated in a one-day orientation workshop for the Junior Achievement Secondary School Programmes. Participants were excited about the new initiatives being introduced and the increase in the number of mentors and volunteers available for the new thrust of the programmes.
Seven schools with 175 participants have registered for the Economics for Success programme and Innovation Camp.
Once again, Scotiabank team members will be on hand to provide mentorship to participants.
The Economics for Success programme aims to help students learn fundamental business and economic concepts, explore career interests and opportunities and develop work-readiness skills. The seven-week session culminates with the Innovation Camp whereparticipants use their skills in enterprising and innovative ways to find a technical solution to a problem.
Last year, St. Joseph’s Convent emerged winners with the development of a savings app and advanced to the regional competition.
It is our belief that connecting schools with businesses-like multinational organizations like Scotiabank can be very beneficial to students and the interaction with dedicated volunteers can make them feel connected to a larger global network.
Junior Achievement (JA) is the largest and fastest-growing non-profit economic education organization in the world serving more than 10.6 million students annually. Students experience the JA curriculum through the support of volunteers dedicated in helping students better understand business and economics.
