THE 2016 -2017 Secondary School Sports programme commences on Monday with action in two disciplines.

From 2:00 p.m. there will be an Under-19 Group A male basketball match-up between Sir Arthur Lewis Community College and Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School while Soufriere Comprehensive will clash with Babonneau Secondary at 3:30 p.m.

In Group B on the same day, Castries Comprehensive will play Vieux Fort Comprehensive and Corinth Secondary will meet Vide Bouteille Secondary at 3:30 p.m.

In Group B Under-19 netball, Castries Comprehensive clash with Gros Islet from 11:00 a.m. and Corinth Secondary will play Sir Ira Simmons at 12:30 p.m. Grande Riviere Secondary will take on Babonneau Secondary at 2:00 p.m. The above-mentioned netball matches will be played at the Beausejour Indoor Facility.

In Group C Under -19 netball, Beane Field Secondary plays Soufriere from 11:00 a.m., and AnseGer Secondary will be up against Choiseul Secondary at 2:00 p.m. Clendon Mason Memorial will play Micoud Secondary at 3:00 p.m. These matches will be played at the Micoud Court.

The track and field championships for the various schools will commence in January.

School sports coordinator, Isabel Marquis says that although the programme has been held for several years now, the same recurring problems and inefficiencies remain. She continued: “These problems include the late end times on the scheduled days, meaning late arrival of student athletes and teachers/coaches to their homes, poor officiating of some events, quality and timing of announcements during the events, timely posting of results (for advancement in rounds or final results), steady updating of points (which could add excitement and more competition), incomplete medal ceremonies and distribution of final results post-event.”
