AS early as 5:00 p.m. today, hundreds of sports fans are expected to converge on the La Resource Playing Field for what has been dubbed “A Boxing Punch Out In The Valley” organized by the St. Lucia Boxing Association.
Fans will have the chance to see all three of St. Lucia’s recent successes at the Caribbean School Boys/Girls Boxing Championship Nathan Ferrier, Kareem Boyce and Tahj Brown.
The bouts for the evening will feature Roger Busby vs. Zialan St. Ange, KalRiviere vs. Omar Mann, JovannusFevrier vs. Kishma Anthony, Kareem Boyce vs. Travis Maynard, Adrian Louis vs. the “best boxer” at the Caribbean Boys / Girls Championships Nathan Ferrier, former “boxer of the year” Alex Poyette vs. Demitary Charley, the experienced Arthur Langullier vs. Marvin Anthony, KeyganMortley vs. Olympic hopeful Lyndell Marcellin, Tahj Brown vs. Leslie Joseph, Colin Vidal vs. Ron Bastian, female Malander St. Clair vs. KimerChastanet and Garvin Donaie vs. Ian Alberto.
According to the SLBA the referees for the evening showpiece include Robert Joseph, Cecil Kerr and Julie Bonnet..
Meanwhile, following the boxing showpiece, fans will turn their attention onto the basketball court when the Blackheart Production in collaboration with Windward and Leeward Brewery will kick off the 2016 Guinness Street Football challenge to select the top two winners from the La Ressource leg.
According to David Christopher CEO of Blackheartn, the Guinness Street Football train will travel around the island to ensure every community gets in on the action as St. Lucia for the first time will host the grand final.
In recent times, St. Lucia has done remarkably well in the regional tournaments. In 2011 and 2012 champs Fantastic from Soufriere gained second spot in Guyana, Platinum FC from Vieux Fort placed third in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 2013, Le Pong from Dennery represented in 2014 and the 2015 champs Veterans won the title in Jamaica and are hoping to defend it this year.
The overall champion for the Caribbean leg with receive US$4,000.00 and an all expenses paid trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
