Organisations across Saint Lucia joined forces around a shared environmental goal at the Laborie/Augier Community E-Waste and Aluminium Cans Drop-Off on Saturday, 10 October 2026. The event drew almost 100 residents, who brought approximately 475 pounds of e-waste to the Laborie Market Square for safe collection, sorting, and recycling.
The event was organised by Greening the Caribbean (GtC) Inc. and the Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority through the wider Integrated E-Waste Management System initiative, funded by IDB Lab. Its success was strengthened by the contributions of Massy Stores, LUCELEC, Invest Saint Lucia, Sugar Beach, the Laborie Credit Union, NEMO, Mama Rose Restaurant, the Caribbean Youth Environment Network, the Laborie/Augier Constituency Council, and SLASPA.
Together, these partners provided the financial, in-kind, technical, promotional, logistical, and volunteer support needed to bring the event to life. Their collective contribution strengthened community outreach, supported an engaging and well-coordinated event-day experience, and helped ensure that residents could participate meaningfully.
The human response was equally encouraging. Children arrived before the event opened, an elderly resident came with her son and several items, and a market vendor encouraged others to participate. Mobile phones, tablets, laptops, televisions, monitors, fans, kettles, microwaves, and other small electronics and appliances were among the items collected.
Organised in recognition of International E-Waste Day, observed internationally on October 14, 2026, the event was meant to highlight a simple but important truth: lasting environmental progress is built through partnership. By combining resources, trusted community networks, technical support, volunteer effort, and local knowledge, the participating organisations tried to turn shared concern into practical action for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Saint Lucia.
