The Department of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Heritage is said to be continuing its efforts to strengthen service quality across Saint Lucia’s tourism sector through a targeted training initiative aimed at enhancing the skills, professionalism and knowledge of persons who interact directly with visitors.
On Monday 14 September, the ministry will convene a critical training program aimed at small accommodation properties at the Cool Breeze Conference room. This session follows the Tourism Vendors Training Programme in Soufrière, which was executed at the same venue and catered to some 22 tourism vendors. The training was focused on equipping participants with the practical knowledge and skills required to provide professional, welcoming and consistent service to visitors. Training also covered key areas including:
- Customer service and professionalism,
- Understanding the tourism industry and the vendor’s role,
- The importance of the Saint Lucia tourism brand.
Tourism vendors represent an important part of the visitor experience, often serving as some of the first and most direct points of interaction between visitors and the destination. The initiative therefore seeks to ensure that these interactions reflect the warmth, professionalism and quality for which Saint Lucia is known.
Similar training for small properties and vendors will also be held in Gros Islet.
Plans are also underway to extend targeted training to restaurant caravans and ATV operators, recognizing the important contribution these operators make to the overall visitor experience.
Through these initiatives, the Department remains committed to building capacity across the tourism sector and supporting tourism stakeholders in delivering quality experiences that contribute positively to visitor satisfaction and Saint Lucia’s reputation as a leading tourism destination.
Tourism stakeholders and operators are expected to actively participate in these initiatives.
