The third edition of the Saint Lucia Semi-Pro Football League (SPFL) is in full swing, bringing thrilling matches to the Francis “Baba” Lastic Grounds in Gros Islet.
This season has been marked by dynamic and electrifying action as teams compete fiercely for the coveted championship title.
Over the past weekend, Vieux Fort South surged to the top of the points table after defeating Central Castries 2-1 in a closely contested match.
Since its promotion to Tier I, Vieux Fort South has impressed and is now level on points with defending champions La Clery, maintaining an unbeaten run in the competition.
In their match on Sunday, Vieux Fort South got off to a quick start in the fifth minute with an own goal from Kaylan Harry. Central Castries equalized in the 34th minute through Demario Pelage, but just four minutes later, Gregson President scored to put Vieux Fort South back in the lead, securing all three points for the southern side.
Fans were treated to a thrilling encounter on the same day as Gros Islet narrowly edged out Mabouya Valley 4-3 in a seven-goal spectacle.
Dervaj Edward scored twice (49′, 70′), and Samaiel Louisen contributed another goal in the 27th minute for Gros Islet. For Mabouya Valley, Brandon Sandiford (5′), Alton Joseph (52′), and Canius Sandiford (61′) found the net.
In other matches, Dennery, Soufrière, and Gros Islet all secured victories, while La Clery dropped points in a 1-1 draw against Anse La Raye.
Vershaun Jerome put Anse La Raye ahead in the 69th minute, but La Clery equalized dramatically with a goal from Johnathan Aliene in stoppage time (90+2).
On Saturday’s early fixture, Soufrière came from behind to defeat Canaries 2-1. After Mc Lathur Louis’s goal for Canaries in the 14th minute, Soufrière responded with second-half goals from Jardel Philip (70′) and Darrel Francis (85′).
Dennery currently sits in second place, having dominated Vieux Fort North 7-2 on Friday. Garvin Reggie scored the first four-goal haul of the season, netting in the fourth, 23rd, 45th, and 62nd minutes. Kurt Frederick (9′), Shannelle William (36′), and Jamie Prospere also contributed to the scoreline, while Kimroy Manero (49′) and Kim Augustin (75′) scored for Vieux Fort North.
Looking ahead, today’s match features Dennery taking on La Clery in what is anticipated to be an exciting encounter at the FBLG.
