NH International (Caribbean) Limited (NH) has secured a landmark contract for the redevelopment of Saint Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport.
The US243M Contract, formally signed with the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) on October 20, 2026, provides for the construction of a new 274,000 Sq Ft 3 Storey Terminal Building and Extensive Associated Airside Facilities under the Hewanorra International Airport Redevelopment Project (HIARP).
At the signing ceremony, NH Chairman Emile Elias welcomed the opportunity to continue to contribute to Saint Lucia’s Development, placing particular emphasis on the value of regional cooperation and the CARICOM relationship.
“First of all, I’d like to say, Prime Minister, thank you and your Cabinet for your belief in CARICOM. CARICOM unites the Caribbean people,” Elias said. “I feel very much at home when I come to Saint Lucia, and I thank you for that.”
The Chairman recalled with pride the longstanding connection with Hewanorra as this award signifies an auspicious milestone for NH, which constructed Hewanorra’s existing terminal 32 years ago.
The Contract Award followed an open International competitive tendering process, attracting interest from 27 firms, with seven ultimately submitting proposals. NH emerged as the best-evaluated bidder following a technical and financial assessment overseen by a team of independent experts.

NH says, this major Award represents more than a corporate milestone. “It reflects the growing opportunities for Caribbean companies to deploy their expertise across national boundaries, contribute to the region’s economic transformation and demonstrate their competitiveness against international firms in the delivery of complex infrastructure.”
Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister, Philip J. Pierre, expressed confidence in both the procurement process and the capabilities of the Contractor.
“We have full confidence in the process that’s got us where we are,” the Prime Minister stated. “We have full confidence in the capacity and capability of the Contractor.”
The Prime Minister also welcomed the regional and local involvement in the project, expressing his satisfaction that young Saint Lucians and CARICOM nationals are participating.
His statement is said to have underscored the wider significance of regional cooperation in infrastructure development and the opportunities for Caribbean Professionals, businesses and workers to contribute to the region’s growth.
The 39-month construction programme, targeted for completion in late 2029, is expected to deliver a modern 274,000 sq ft airport terminal designed to accommodate increasing visitor arrivals, strengthen international connectivity and support Saint Lucia’s long-term economic development.
The new facility will feature five contact gates with passenger boarding bridges, an additional aircraft parking position and provision for future expansion to eight gates.
Passenger amenities will include spacious departure lounges, enhanced immigration and customs facilities, modern baggage-handling systems, restaurants, duty-free shopping and premium lounges. Complementary airside works will include upgraded aircraft parking aprons, improved drainage, floodlighting and associated aviation infrastructure.
Construction will proceed while the existing airport remains operational, requiring careful coordination, stringent safety management and close collaboration among NH, SLASPA and the project’s professional and technical teams.
