A celebration of La Clery’s sporting history took place recently as former football players, community icons, and stalwarts were recognized at the La Clery Legends Award Ceremony.

Held on Saturday, August 29, at the Vide Boutique Cultural Club, the event commemorated the dedicated contributions of the awardees, marking the third installment of this prestigious ceremony.

The gathering brought together well-wishers and honorees to remember and celebrate the legacies of the community’s veterans and unsung heroes.

Many of those honored were former players representing La Clery’s rich football history, alongside administrators who played pivotal roles in transforming La Clery into a sporting powerhouse.

In a nod to the significance of the evening, veterans from the 1960s to the 1990s donned ceremonial blazers, marking their induction as community legends.

The highlight of the night was the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to renowned former basketball power forward Hilarion “Big Dean” Alfred, officially enshrining him as a La Clery Legend.
John Sealy, a notable community activist, retired educator, and long-serving public servant, delivered the keynote address. Sealy highlighted the community’s achievements beyond sports, extending to academia, arts, and technical fields.

“The community has produced outstanding individuals not just in the area of sports, but also in academia, arts, and the technical fields,” he remarked.

Parliamentary Representative for Castries North, Stephenson King, congratulated the honorees and urged them to inspire future generations.

“I want to thank and congratulate the Legends of La Clery for taking the mantle and leadership in honouring those who have made significant contributions to our community,” King stated.

He called for a sustained mentorship program for aspiring young legends, encouraging them to look up to those who have paved the way.
