CPL Launches Schoolyard Programme with Sessions in Saint Lucia and Jamaica

Saint Lucia is among several regional countries benefiting from an innovative sports-educational initiative launched by the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The CPL Schoolyard Programme kicked off on August 17, featuring the first two coaching sessions held at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia and Sabina Park in Jamaica.

Nearly 100 children attended the sessions at both venues, participating in cricket coaching led by players from their home CPL franchises.

In Saint Lucia, young participants trained with players from the Saint Lucia Kings, while in Jamaica, the session was led by the Jamaica Kingsmen.

Each child who attended received a CPL Schoolyard book bag filled with branded back-to-school supplies, ensuring they are well-equipped as the new school term begins across the Caribbean next month.

Pete Russell, CEO of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), expressed his enthusiasm: “It was fantastic to be at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground and witness so many young cricketers taking their first steps in the game, coached by players they idolize from Saint Lucia Kings. The CPL Schoolyard programme goes beyond cricket; it’s about giving back to the communities that support this league and ensuring these children start the new school year prepared for success.”

The CPL Schoolyard Programme is part of the league’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, allowing young cricket fans to learn directly from the players they admire.
