
Tapion Hospital, the nearly 30-year-old medical facility, this week, paid tribute to those who were integrally involved in cementing the organization into the success that it is today.
Thursday, an audience of founders, icons and representatives of supporting organizations gathered at the medical facility’s lobby for the unveiling of a commemorative wall of images of those who not only were involved in setting up the facility, but also those who assisted in its successful management.

Tapion Hospital’s founders include Mr. Michael Gordon, Dr. Andrew Richardson, Dr. Martin Didier, Dr. Emsco Remy, Dr. Stephen King, Dr. Owen King, Dr. Trona Bennett, Dr. Jacqueline Bird, Dr. Leonard Surage, Dr. Marie Grandison-Didier and Dr. Leslie Ann Bishop.

Chairman Dr. Romel Daniel confirmed that the organization went through its fair share of hardships during its 3-decade existence. “Like every organization that survives with the decades the institution faced its share of challenges. There were periods of uncertainty, financial strain and moments where difficult management decisions had to be made in order to preserve survival. History teaches us not only to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past but revere those who have sacrificed so that future generations might stand upon their shoulders.”

The May 13th ceremony, which also featured an address from Medical Director Dr. Tracy Semei-Spencer, carried the theme “Standing on the shoulders of giants.”

Ten individuals were recognized as icons and took their place on the commemorative wall including Sister Francisca Dickson, Sister Vona John, Mrs. Jane Romulus, Nurse Denise Auguste and Ms. Debra Spencer. Sir George Theophilus was instrumental is the survival of the medical institution as was Richard DuBoulay, Reginald St. Juste, Dr Gavin Melville and Anthony Bevan.
Tapion Hostpital, originally Tapion Reef Hotel, was transformed to stand was one of the premier medical facilities in the sub-region.
