Pride and gratitude overflowed on Sunday, February 21st, 2026, as Team RUBIS joined St. Lucians for the Northern Long-Distance Walking Group’s (NLDWG) “Round the Island Challenge”, a full circuit of the Island in celebration of its 47th anniversary of Independence on February 22nd.
United under the Independence theme “Douvan Ansanm: Nourishing Our People and Strengthening Our Nation”, walkers flowed in a sea of national colours along the route from and back to Cul De Sac, fully supported by service vehicles fuelled with a Team RUBIS $2000 XCD sponsorship.
NLDWG representative Sheldon Michel said after its one-year hiatus, the generous support of RUBIS played a vital role in restoring momentum, excitement, and public engagement to the event.
“As the Northern Long-Distance Walking Group (NLDWG) reintroduced its signature Round the Island Challenge, RUBIS’ contribution ensured that all service vehicles remained fully fuelled throughout the walk, allowing our team to manage event logistics seamlessly and respond efficiently at every stage. Most importantly, this support helped us uphold the highest standards of safety and care, safeguarding the well-being of all participants and contributing significantly to the overall success of the event.”

The Round the Island Challenge event has become a fixture on St Lucia’s sporting calendar over the years. The walk aims to promote a healthy, active lifestyle, thereby increasing participation locally, regionally, and internationally.
