The SLFA Inc. District League Girls Under-15 Championships reached a thrilling conclusion at the Technical Centre in Grande Riviere, Dennery, last Saturday, after two months of intense competition.

On Saturday, January 17, Anse La Raye established themselves as the undeniable champions, decisively defeating Dennery in the grand finals to claim the prestigious title.
From the outset, both teams displayed fierce determination, but it was Dennery who struck first with Faye Alphonse finding the net in the 3rd minute. The talented striker showcased her exceptional skills with a powerful shot that gave Dennery an early lead.
Despite the challenge, both teams had opportunities to score but were unable to convert them before the halftime whistle.

Anse La Raye responded immediately after the break, with Lacey Popo equalizing in the 39th minute following a relentless push toward the goal. Fueled by momentum, Anse La Raye continued to press forward, and Leysan Seraphine clinched the victory with a decisive goal in the 45th minute.
Though Dennery tried to mount a late comeback, spearheaded by Alphonse, Anse La Raye’s solid defense held strong, sealing their victory.
Anse La Raye’s triumph was a testament to their hard work and resilience, earning them the championship title.

In the battle for third place, Desruisseaux showcased remarkable energy, edging out Soufriere with a 2 – 1 victory. After an early goal by Jayannie Williams in the 5th minute and a strike from Alyssia Jn. Pierre in the 32nd minute, Soufriere’s Janaii Prevost managed to equalize in the 13 th minute, but Desruisseaux’s tenacity secured their win.
Anse La Raye head coach Jovette Wilson affirmed that her team’s success stemmed from their resilience and aggressive offensive strategy, enabling them to outmatch their opponents. She emphasized the critical nature of understanding their roles on the field for effective execution.

Highlighting the team’s dynamic with younger players, Wilson remarked, “It’s vital to start playing football at a young age to develop and grasp what is necessary on the field.”
She expressed hope that this win would inspire more young girls in the community to take up the sport, showcasing a commitment to fostering female participation in football.
At the post-match presentation, SLFA President Lyndon Cooper congratulated the teams and presented the awards:
– Championship Trophy & Gold Medals – Anse La Raye
– Second Place Trophy & Silver Medals – Dennery
– Third Place Trophy & Bronze Medals – Desruisseaux
– Fourth Place Trophy & Bronze Medals – Soufriere

Individual Awards:
– Most Promising Player – Keyda Karima Ferguson – Canaries
– Best Goal Keeper – Shariella Arthur – Anse La Raye
– Leading Goal Scorer – Janaii Prevost (11) – Soufriere
Anse La Raye stood tall as champions, a title well-earned through their exceptional performance and teamwork.
