Described as a prominent Taiwanese-built vessel, the exquisite yacht Lady Gerts represents a new chapter for Saint Lucia. This yacht is not just a mode of transportation; it stands as a symbol of collaboration, opportunity, and commitment to delivering unforgettable experiences in our island’s pristine waters.
The representative for Lady Gerts asserted, “We are eager to work hand in hand with our hoteliers and tour operators to craft unique journeys for visitors, citizens, and residents alike. Together, we will showcase Saint Lucia’s natural beauty, hospitality, and vibrant culture, ensuring that Lady Gerts becomes a beloved part of our tourism narrative.”
The Lady Gerts management team includes;
- Managing Director of TGM Ocean Holdings – Arneaud Mendes
- Managing Director of OSAM Yachting – Orion Mendes
- Director of TGM Ocean Holdings- Stephen Mendes
- CEO of TGM Ocean Holdings – Theron Mendes
Theron Mendes, the yacht’s owner, shared insights with The Voice about his journey in establishing this family-run business. The yacht is named after his wife, epitomizing the essence of a ‘Princess of the Ocean.’
Reflecting on his journey, Mendes said, “From cleaning toilets on Caribbean cargo ships to becoming a captain, we’ve put in the hard work.”
He reminisced about the family’s previous ventures, including operating the Juc Factory (beverages) and managing cargo ships.
“Upon retirement, my wife and I originally intended to buy a small yacht for personal enjoyment. However, our children advised us to invest in a larger yacht that we could also charter out when not in use,” Mendes explained, illustrating the evolution of their initiative into a full-scale charter business.
“This is my first venture into the yacht cruise industry,” he admitted. “We offer a top-of-the-line luxurious yacht cruise, accommodating groups, couples, and other clients with provisions for an average of 50 passengers for local tours.”
Regarding the operational aspect, Mendes mentioned that he will serve as skipper occasionally, but they are currently seeking a captain for tours. “When I take private cruises, I will captain the vessel, but for charter tours, a professional captain will take charge, ” he said.
The dedicated crew consists of about six members, and depending on the nature of the charter, they can expand to include a chef and stewardesses, bringing the total crew to about 10 to 12 people. The yacht cruise service envisions exciting ‘island hopping’ tours to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Martinique, and other islands.
Mendes proudly revealed that the company has already secured two yacht charters for overseas clientele this December during the busy festive season and anticipates even more bookings in the future.
