Consumer Affairs Officers Monitor VAT Reduction Compliance

.

In an effort to ensure that consumers benefit from the recent 12.5% Value Added Tax (VAT) reduction, officers from the Consumer Affairs Department have been actively monitoring retail prices across the island.

Complaints and Investigation Officers have been conducting thorough price checks both before and after the implementation of the zero-rating policy measure, targeting goods directly impacted by the VAT adjustment.

The ongoing inspections are aimed at ensuring that the savings from the tax reduction are passed on to consumers at the shelf level and that retailers remain compliant with government policy. The Department is urging members of the public to report any concerns regarding pricing discrepancies.

Officials have reiterated their commitment to protecting consumers and promoting fair trade practices as part of their broader mandate to ensure transparency in the marketplace.
