Saint Lucia’s next general elections are constitutionally mandated to occur within the next 12 months, and the major political parties are actively promoting their candidates for representation. In this context, the ruling SLP has officially announced its candidates for the South East Castries and Vieux Fort South constituencies.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre recognized the commitment of former Castries South East MP Joachim Henry, acknowledging his significant service to the party as a senator during opposition and his role as Minister for Equity and Social Justice in the SLP administration.
While Henry “served with conviction,” PM Pierre emphasized that the party is governed by strict procedures and processes that every member must adhere to.
“The selection process within the Saint Lucia Labour Party has been executed transparently. Senator Lisa Jawahir is the endorsed candidate for the Castries South East constituency, and Mr. Danny Butcher is the endorsed candidate for the Vieux Fort South constituency,” PM Pierre stated firmly at a media briefing this week.
He expressed pride in the robust interest from individuals wanting to represent the party, stating: “I thank all candidates for conducting their campaigns with discipline. I am proud to lead a party with such strong and credible contenders.”
PM Pierre declared: “We are firmly focused on maintaining and retaining these seats in the upcoming general elections.”
Addressing concerns about insurrection within the party following these announcements, he asserted: “The Labour Party has endured significant challenges. No one will hold our party to ransom. The Labour Party is the legacy of George Charles, the founder, and the party of the people of Saint Lucia.”
The SLP political leader confidently stated: “No one will undermine our party when democratic processes are in place. Candidate selection is a clear and well-communicated process for all who join the party.”
