Young Saint Lucian Boxers Earn 3rd Place in Caribbean Schools Tournament

SAINT Lucian boxers captured the third-place  at the seventh Annual Winfield Brathwaite Caribbean School Boys and Girls Boxing Tournament, which was held recently in Guyana.

Led by Captain Herve Charlemagne, Saint Lucia ended the tournament 14 points behind Trinidad & Tobago in second place, and the host nation Guyana retained the title.

Standout performances came from Nervon Mederick who won two silver medals. Orlando Monrose and Elroy Canchon both had the fights of their young careers. They received a monetary gifts for the skills they exhibited.

President of the Saint Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA) David Christopher congratulated the entire team.

“We are very proud of the boys for their show of sportsmanship, dedication and discipline and I want to say to them that they are all winners. Stay in the gym and results will be better next time,” he said.

During their time in Guyana, the young Saint Lucian boxers also participated in motivational sessions with Olympic Silver Medalist Michael Parris and two-time American and two-time North American Champion Terrence Alli.
