Stolen Gun Recovered, 3 Men Arrested During Gros Islet J’ouvert

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, around 5:00 AM, the Special Operations Team, in collaboration with the Gros-Islet Police Station, conducted routine security operations during J’ouvert celebrations in Gros-Islet. These operations led to the recovery of a stolen weapon and the arrest of three males.

During the festivities, officers observed a suspicious individual, later identified as 23-year-old Gurshan James of Rose Hill, Castries. A search of his person revealed a stolen pistol equipped with an auto-sear, along with a magazine and 26 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Gurshan James was subsequently charged with Handling Stolen Goods, Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition. He applied for bail at the Magistrate’s court but was remanded to the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

Additionally, officers apprehended 28-year-old Stephenson Charles of Monchy, Gros-Islet, who had a Commitment Warrant issued against him for failing to comply with a court order. In 2022, Charles was convicted of Possession of a Firearm and fined XCD 30,000. Following his arrest, he was taken to the Bordelais Correctional Facility to serve a custodial sentence for his non-compliance.

The third arrest was related to an ongoing investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Castries into a report of Grievous Harm. Officers apprehended and charged 26-year-old Jamal Paul, also known as Brace, of Ciceron, Castries, with Grievous Harm. At the time of his arrest, Paul was on bail for a previous Grievous Harm offence and awaiting trial. His bail application was denied, and he was remanded to the Bordelais Correctional Facility.
