Saint Lucia in the Hunt for another W/Wards Super 50 Title

Team Saint Lucia is on its way to win another championship title as they face Dominica today in the 2024 Windwards Super 50 Championships.

After clinching victories in their two previous matches, the host team will take on the ‘Nature Isle’ side at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground [DSCG]. Meanwhile, Grenada will go head-to-head against SVG at the Mindoo Phillip Park.

In the opening game, on Wednesday, Saint Lucia defeated Grenada, at the DSCG.

Batting first, Grenada were in early trouble losing the first wicket at 1/7. But opener Jonah Jeremiah who top scored with 83 off 89 balls (7×4, 4×6) was pivotal in helping his team set up a total. Other contributors included captain Ryan John 54 off 40 balls (6×4, 3×6), and Kirt Murray 29 off 57 balls (3×4).

Right-arm pacer, Keon Gaston set up Saint Lucia’s victory as he ripped through the second half of Grenada’s batting line-up by producing figures of 5/ 42 (9.2 overs). Gaston’s spell was backed up by left-arm spinner Larry Edward, who captured 2 / 37 (10 overs).

Saint Lucia replied strongly with openers including top scorer Noelle Leo 71 off 56 balls (7×4, 2×6) and captain Kimani Melius 31 off 23 balls (4×4, 1×6) sharing a blistering stand of 84 off 47 balls to set the template for a steely chase. Johnnel Eugene chipped in with 36 off 43 (1×4, 2×6), Shadrake Descarte 26 off 23 (1×4, 2×6), and Tyrel Chicot 23* off 11 (1×4, 2×6) to close off the innings.

Josh Thomas with 4/71 (9 overs), and Darel Cyrus 2/50 (9overs) were Grenada’s top bowlers.

President of the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association, Wayne Auguste is especially pleased with the performances of the young High Performance Center players, who led the fight with bat and ball in the host and defending champions securing a well-earned victory.
