The National Workers Union (NWU) has submitted a 28-point Memorandum of Proposals to the Management of Buckeye Partners St. Lucia Terminal Ltd.
The regime of proposals will form the basis of discussions between the National Workers Union and the company. These are based on a wage structure, fringe benefits and overall improvements in general working conditions. Talks are expected to commence shortly. Both sides have indicated their willingness to complete the industrial relations negotiation process amicably.
Meanwhile, Labour Commissioner Joseph Joseph has dispatched a Certificate of Recognition to the National Workers Union. This is as a result of a Secret Ballot Poll undertaken by the Department of Labour among the Hanco Industries employees. The workers voted by majority to have their interests represented by the National Workers Union.
The NWU as the bargaining agent for the company’s employees, is in the early stages of organizing a forward planning meeting for the said employees.
