Acting Secretary General of the Saint Lucia Civil Service Association, Mac Stephen Aubertin has revealed that Grade One employees of the Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) are totally dissatisfied with the inordinate delay in concluding negotiations for the period 2014 to 2019.
He said this has resulted in employees being paid salaries which came into effect in 2013, at a time when inflation was at an unprecedented level.
Aubertin said that the employees are placed in a disadvantageous position since most of the company’s employees have received increases since 2013, thus widening the disparity in the salaries paid to managers and grade one employees.
And that the inordinate delay in settling the negotiations is due to the failure by Management to meet deadlines set for the forwarding of revised salary proposals, and the consequent adjournment and rescheduling of negotiations meetings.
“This failure has increased frustration among the employees. From all indication, employee morale is at an all time low.
“The employees bargaining agent, Saint Lucia Civil Service Association is appealing to the management of LUCELEC to provide the required information and to meet at the soonest to bring closure to the negotiation,” noted Aubertin in a press release.
