Bowlers on the Rampage in U-15 Schools Cricket

By Reginald Andrew

A couple of devastating spells of bowling were the highlight of last weekend’s 2022 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports – 40 Overs Under-15 Schools Cricket Tournament.

The bowlers on the respective winning teams had a very eventful ‘field day’ as they bamboozled the opposing batters to set some easy wins for their sides.

Four matches were completed as the competition continued at venues around the island.

Last Friday, at the Wenn Playing Field, the St Lucia Sports Academy rattled through the Grand Riviere

Secondary School’s batting line-up to record a massive 10-wicket win.

Right arm seam bowler Sheldon Willie continued his outstanding bowling display in the tournament bagging six for five runs off three overs including a ‘Hat Trick’, his third in the tournament so far, to dismantle the Grande Riviere Secondary School for a meagre 31 runs in 10 overs.

He was ably supported by captain Theo Edward with two for six in two overs and a wicket each to Nathaniel Joseph and Keylan Hippolyte.

This is also Willie’s third consecutive five-wicket haul in the ongoing contest.

In reply the St Lucia Sports Academy made light work of the target, to reach 36 without loss in 4.1 overs with Edward dominating with an undefeated 26.

In another low-scoring affair, this time at the Piaye Playing Field, Vieux Fort Secondary School skittled Micoud Secondary for 28 in 8.2overs.

D’mhari Ferdinand led the rout for VFSS with remarkable bowling figures of eight for 11 in 4.2 overs and Torshawn Walter two for 16 in four overs. In reply, Vieux Fort Comprehensive finished on 31 for 1 in 5.2 overs.

At the Mindoo Philip Park, Corinth Secondary School (CSS) batting first was dismissed for 112 in 20 overs with Jaheem Simeon scoring 39, Royston Fanis 31, and Messi Gerson 10.  For Ciceron Secondary, Sherlon Daniel took four for 21 in five overs, Dervelle Gustave three for 16 in four overs, and Jean – Louis Daniel two for 23 in three overs.

In reply, Ciceron Secondary was dismissed for 51 in 12 overs with Sherlon Daniel scoring 11.  CSS’s main wicket takers were Royston Fanis with four for three in three overs, Jaheem Simeon four for 21 in 3.2 overs.

CSS pulled off a 61-run victory.

At the Phillip Marcelin Grounds, Beanefield Secondary batted first against Soufriere Comprehensive and were dismissed for 56 in 9.2 overs. Siaus Brin top-scored with 10.

Elenzare Cazaubon bagged three for six in three overs, Ranel Jn. Baptiste two for five in three overs.

Soufriere Comprehensive eased to a nine-wicket victory, finishing on 57 for one in 9.2 overs. Samuel Alexander hit 14* to complete the victory.
