The Politics of Desperation and Deception From Guy Jospeh and Dominic Fedee

By Stanley Lester Pascal

In this final week before the 1st December general elections in St. Lucia, two of the UWP’s (United Workers Party) most despised members of its political hierarchy- its first and second Deputy Leaders- Guy Josoeh and Dominic Fedee – demonstrated once again whey they have achieved this notoriety when they descended, not for the first time, into the depths of the politics of desperation and deception.

Their conduct should leave no doubt in the minds of the voters of Castries South East (where Joseph is contesting) and Anse La Raye/ Canaries (Dominic Fedee trying to regain it) that they should both be rejected at the polls on Monday 1st December, as they were in 2021, and finally confined to the dustbin of St. Lucia’s political history.

Playing Politics with Panic – Guy Joseph’s Reckless Lies on Bocage

In what can only be described as a shocking display of political opportunism, Opposition politician Guy Joseph chose to fabricate fear and panic for personal and partisan gain. Speaking on a public platform Tuesday evening, Joseph claimed that a “drive-by shooting in Bocage” left up to eight people shot, an allegation that the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has categorically refuted as entirely false.

Joseph’s statement was reckless, irresponsible, and dangerous. He admitted he could not confirm the numbers, yet proceeded to present unverified “information” as fact, adding, “the information is in circulation, and stating that the Labour Party still does not have a handle on the crime situation in Saint Lucia.” In doing so, Joseph attempted to weaponize the fears of Saint Lucians about crime, spreading baseless rumors to score political points.

The RSLPF denounced Joseph’s claims as “malicious lies” and emphasized that no mass shooting, multiple homicides, or large-scale attack occurred in Bocage. Officials warned that spreading such false reports “is detrimental to public order and causes unnecessary panic within the community.”

However, it is worth asking, was Guy Joseph privy to a planned drive by mass shooting in Bocage that night which for some reason did not materialize? If he was privy, how come he was? If he was privy, how come he did not alert the police?

When politicians can get as desperate as this, it only means one thing: they do not care about the people they claim to represent. Their priority is not safety, not accountability, not service, it is power. Using crime, a real and serious concern, as a political prop demonstrates a callous disregard for the very communities they claim to champion.

It is worth noting that the Philip J. Pierre administration has provided the most support to the police of any government in Saint Lucia’s history, supplying resources, personnel, equipment, and training to assist law enforcement in fighting crime effectively. Yet Joseph chooses to ignore this reality, opting instead to spread misinformation for political gain.

This desperation is part of a troubling pattern: it was the UWP leader, Allen Chastanet, who publicly stated his Party’s plans to work with gang leaders if elected into office. When fear, misinformation, and criminal connections become political strategy, the people of Saint Lucia are the ones who suffer.

Public safety is not a campaign prop, and crime is not a scoreboard. Saint Lucians deserve leadership that informs, protects, and guides, not opportunists who turn fear into a weapon.

Dominic Fedee Attacks Progress He Failed to Deliver

Dominic Fedee has once again proven that when it comes to political desperation, there is no limit to how far he will go, even if it means misleading the very people he once represented.

This week, Fedee falsely claimed that the Philip J. Pierre Government borrowed a fire appliance and ambulance from the Soufriere Fire Station for the opening of the new West Coast Fire Station.

The truth is simple: the fire truck and ambulance stationed at the facility are brand-new units, recently procured specifically for the West Coast Fire Station, fully staffed, and ready to serve the communities of Anse La Raye and Canaries, two areas that have suffered for years without proper emergency services.

Rather than celebrating a long-overdue milestone, Fedee chose to attack the very progress that benefits the people he claims to champion.

During his nearly six years in office, he failed to deliver even a single fire station to his constituency. And the ambulance he claimed to be “saving money” to purchase for Anse La Raye? It never materialized. No funds. No ambulance. No accountability.

This is the same Dominic Fedee who, while Minister for Tourism, allegedly appropriated a constituent’s river rafting idea and claimed it as his own. His track record in Anse La Raye and Canaries is clear: he has consistently prioritized personal and political gain over the needs of the communities he purports to serve.

If Fedee truly cared about the residents of Anse La Raye and Canaries, as he claims, he would be celebrating this historic achievement rather than undermining it with lies and misinformation.

The West Coast Fire Station represents real service, real protection, and real progress for families who have waited far too long.

Unfortunately, Saint Lucians should not expect much else from a United Workers Party led by a figure whose leadership condoned foreign artists insulting Prime Minister Philip J Pierre as being ‘autistic’ and disparaging citizens of Saint Lucia. Leadership is about service, truth, and standing with your people, not spreading deceit for political point-scoring.

Dominic Fedee had the opportunity to make a difference. He failed. Now that others have delivered, his only response is sabotage and misinformation. If he truly valued the safety and well-being of Anse La Raye and Canaries, he would be applauding today’s historic achievement, not seeking to tarnish it. The people deserve better, better leadership, better honesty, and certainly better than Dominic Fedee’s politics of deception.
