Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) football team claimed victory in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Under-19 Football tournament, defeating Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School (SCSS) with a score of 2-1 in the final match on Thursday, November 13.
The decisive showdown took place at the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Technical Centre in Grande Riviere, Dennery.
Rhyime Montoute and Ethan Oculie delivered standout performances that propelled SALCC to triumph.
Montoute opened the scoring in the 20th minute, giving the ‘College lads’ a strong lead. Despite SCSS’s relentless efforts to equalize, the team from Morne Fortune maintained a firm grip on their 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
The intensity of the match escalated in the second half as SCSS found their rhythm and leveled the score in the 52nd minute with a goal from Danile Joseph, reigniting their supporters’ hopes.
With the championship title up for grabs, the final moments turned into a thrilling contest.
In the 79th minute, SALCC earned a crucial penalty, heightening the tension as both teams fought for victory. Ethan Oculie confidently stepped up and placed the ball to the right of SCSS goalkeeper Brial Nelson, sealing SALCC’s championship win.
In the earlier third-place playoff, the Saint Lucia Sports Academy (SLSA) narrowly defeated Micoud Secondary School 2-1. Merlan Cools opened the scoring in the 6th minute, followed by a goal from Randal Monrose in the 25th.
Micoud’s Jarald Henry pulled one back in the 40th minute, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.
