The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) proudly acknowledges the government’s recent initiative: the historic transition of over 650 home caregivers to permanent employment.
A SLP release states that this is another significant achievement for “our people-first agenda, driven by our Political Leader and Prime Minister, Philip J. Pierre, who has fulfilled his promise to empower the working people of Saint Lucia.”
On October 2, more than 650 home caregivers associated with the Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) officially transitioned from contract workers to permanent employees.
The statement adds, this momentous policy shift reflects the bold and compassionate leadership of PM Pierre and his Cabinet of Ministers.
It continues, this transition forms part of a broader initiative where nearly 2,000 public servants have been granted permanency under the Pierre-led Labour Government. This action has transformed lives, restored dignity, and provided genuine financial security for families across Saint Lucia.
During the SSDF ceremony, Leandra George-Fields, supervisor of the Home Caregiver programme, praised the Prime Minister and his Cabinet, stating that this change has “restored our dignity, our hope, our future.”
She emphasized that these workers and their families will remember that the SLP stood firmly with them when it mattered most. She contrasted this with the United Workers Party (UWP), which victimized caregivers, terminating their contracts and leaving families without income based solely on perceived political affiliation.
Moreover, the release adds that while the UWP punished workers for their loyalty, the SLP has chosen to reward them with dignity, respect, and stability.
The SLP asserts that its guiding philosophy of “Putting People First” is not just a slogan; it is an action-driven commitment that delivers real results.
“Today, more than 650 Saint Lucians and their loved ones can be confident that with the Labour Party, their future is secure, their dignity is upheld, and their voices are valued,” the SLP remarked. “We extend our gratitude to PM Pierre for his unparalleled leadership and assure the people of Saint Lucia that we will continue to work tirelessly to uplift our working class and fortify the foundation of our nation.”
