St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) recognized and celebrated the outstanding achievements of its team members at the recently held Staff Awards ceremony under the theme “Garden of Achievement: Blooming for 60 Years”.
The evening’s big winners included Employee of the Year Grades 4-6 Marlence Sammy, a member of the company’s Transmission & Distribution Team and Employee of the Year Grades 7-9 Sharlyn Davidson from its Customer Service department. Roger Joseph, the LUCELEC Senior Manager Strategy Execution & Innovation, was recognized on the evening as the Senior Manager of the Year.
Chief Human Resources Officer Sharon Narcisse explained that the purpose of the awards was to nurture a spirit of togetherness, achievement and pride.
“Tonight, we are not just celebrating awards, we’re celebrating a flourishing garden of excellence nurtured by 60 years of hard work, creativity, teamwork and resilience. As we honour excellence across ten prestigious categories from Core Values to Customer Excellence, from Innovation to Strategy, from Leadership to Teamwork and as we recognize our long service awardees who have been the steady oaks among us, let us celebrate not only what has been achieved but all that has been planted for the future.”

During his address, Managing Director Gilroy Pultie spoke of the Company’s many successes. This included its strategic focus, especially as it continues the transitionary path to renewable energy.
“We must reflect on LUCELEC’s remarkable journey over the past 60 years to remind us of the immense progress we have made and the challenges we have overcome from modest beginnings to a leading utility provider in the region and beyond. Each milestone along the way stands as a testament to our commitment and resilience. A state-of-the-art modern power system commissioned in 1990 that we strategically expanded and modernized over the years to meet the rapidly growing demand for electricity and take advantage of new technologies to increase the level of automation, efficiency and reliability in the supply of electricity to our customers. We continue to evolve our grid to prepare for other emerging technologies and a changing electricity landscape that would involve multiple players and significant renewable energy in the mix.”
Chairman John Joseph, who is also a former member of LUCELEC’s Senior Management Team, challenged team members to continue living LUCELEC’s values, in particular the pursuit of excellence because it is that which would ultimately shape the Company’s future.
“If for nothing else, we need to inspire confidence and resilience for others to continue to build on these successes, especially in the face of numerous challenges that will continue and get even tougher in the years ahead but I have no doubt ten years from now when we reflect it will be no different – continued growth, continued success and resilience. I think that’s what LUCELEC is made of.”
The 2024 LUCELEC Small Department of the Year was the Information Systems Department and Large Department of the Year, Finance and Accounts. A combined Generation and Maintenance Team was also presented with a Team Award.
