St. Lucia financial system has registered a growing number for fraudulent activity over the past two years. The latest has drawn the attention of the Bankers Association of St. Lucia.
The latest attack on the financial industry involves messages and calls from individuals claiming to represent the targeted financial institution seeking to verify personal information because of suspicious activity.
The Banking Association of St. Lucia has urged individuals to exercise extreme caution considering the recent surge.
BASL has advised that no legitimate financial institution in St. Lucia will ever request personal banking information via text, phone call, email or social media. BASL has also suggested that suspicious links and messages should not be visited.
The Association is reportedly actively working with local authorities, mobile service providers and member banks to investigate and curtail the fraudulent activities.
The St. Lucia Bankers Association says it is committed to securing the integrity of the local banking system and urges vigilance and cooperation from all.
