The St. Lucia Arthritis and Lupus Association (SLALA) successfully hosted its third annual Strides for Lupus Awareness Walk on Sunday, June 8, 2025. The event marked the end of a full month of activities in observation of Lupus Awareness Month, under the theme Make Lupus Visible, celebrated globally every May.
The walk began at Courts Marisule and ended at Pigeon Point, drawing participation from lupus warriors, families, friends, and members of the public. Dressed in purple shirts, participants walked in unity to raise awareness and visibility for lupus—an autoimmune disease that often goes unnoticed despite its life-altering effects.
Throughout May, SLALA spearheaded a variety of awareness initiatives, including its first Lupus Town Hall Meeting on May 31st at the Tapion Conference Room, under the theme “Real Stories, Real Experiences.” The event offered a safe space for persons living with lupus to share their personal journeys. The Association also encouraged Put on Purple Fridays, encouraging island-wide participation in wearing purple each Friday to show solidarity.
SLALA continues to advocate for increased awareness, early diagnosis, and support for persons living with lupus and arthritis. Membership is open to everyone, not just those diagnosed or their families. The public is invited to lend support by volunteering, making donations, or purchasing awareness merchandise.
SLALA is also calling on corporate organizations to join in its efforts, emphasizing the crucial role of the private sector in promoting education, visibility, and support for those affected.
SLALA extends heartfelt thanks to its sponsors for their generous support and commitment to the cause. Their contributions have helped make the Strides for Lupus Walk and other awareness activities possible.
