SLMDA President Attends World Health Assembly in Switzerland

Newly re-elected President of the Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA), Dr. Merle Clarke, on Thursday May 22, 2025 joined a high-level panel of experts at the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland to discuss issues pertaining to cardiovascular, kidney, metabolic diseases.

Dr. Clarke who is a Nephrologist by profession was in Geneva at the invitation of the Global Alliance for Patient Access and the Global Patient Alliance for Kidney Health; she sits on the medical advisory committee of the latter.

Dr Clarke, during the discussion which was attended by healthcare professionals as well as government officials from various countries, was able to offer insight on kidney disease in our region and the limitations associated with managing patients with Cardiovascular-metabolic-kidney disease. She also emphasised the importance of collaboration of specialties and agencies in preventing and improving efforts aimed at early detection of said disorders.

While in Geneva, Dr. Clarke was invited to be a guest on the “Pioneering Patient” podcast hosted by healthcare public relations expert, Michael George. Dr. Clarke was accompanied by newly re-elected vice president Dr. Dianne Ferdinand Walcott who attended various activities of the World Medical Association as well as several forums with special focus on chronic non-communicable diseases.
