Mobile Blood Bank to Visit The UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia

In an effort to increase the national blood supply and raise awareness of the need for blood donations, The UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia will tomorrow, host a blood donation drive at its Morne Fortune site. This is being done in partnership with the Ezra Long Laboratory Blood Bank of the Millennium Heights Medical Complex.

Members of the general public, alumni, students, and staff are encouraged to participate in this important initiative which begins at 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.

One blood donation can assist up to three individuals urgently needing life-saving blood. Mrs Lesley Crane-Mitchell, Head of The UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia site, is thankful that the Millennium Heights Medical Complex allowed the site to partner in this vital initiative to support the wider community.

The requirements for donating blood include the following:

  • Aged 17 (with parental/guardian consent to age) to 70 years
  • Weight of 110 pounds or more
  • More than one year after getting a tattoo (s)
  • 28 days after being COVID-19 positive and must be symptom-free
  • Acceptable blood pressure readings for donations are from 159/94 to 99/54 mmHg
  • 14 days since the final symptoms of the flu.

Donors must also walk with a valid form of picture identification and ensure they are well-rested, hydrated, and have eaten before donating.

The UWI Global Campus Saint Lucia encourages all eligible donors to take this opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
