The United Workers Party (UWP) has selected a candidate to contest the Castries North parliamentary seat.
Chairman of the Castries North Constituency Branch, Lionel Ellis announced on Sunday.
“He will be announced at a later date by the party leader but just to let you know we are on the move and we will be seeking to pull back all the UWP votes,” Ellis said at a meeting in the constituency.
“As soon as the general election is called and we win we will continue to develop Castries North,” Ellis vowed.
That seat is currently occupied by Infrastructure Minister Stephenson King, a former prime minister who contested the seat as an Independent and won it at the last general election in 2021.
UWP Public Relations Officer, Leonard “Spider” Montoute, hinted “The announcements are coming.”
“I heard through the grapevine that the United Workers Party has a candidate for Castries South as well; stay tuned,” said Montoute.

Youth leader and former news anchor, Joshua Harrow, also appeared at the meeting.
Harrow called for more youth support, noting “If we do not invest in youth we are building a future on quicksand.”
“Our youth are crying out, their voices echo through our streets, in our schools and on social media platforms and in every single community,” he told the gathering.
“Where is that recognition of young leadership in Saint Lucia… Where is the economic plan that allows them to dream beyond survival? Education remains outdated, youth unemployment soars and because of this they are resorting to crime,” Harrow said.
“Do not let anyone tell you your voice does not matter. We must demand better. We must create a future where every child, every teenager, every young adult can look ahead with hope and not despair,” Harrow stated.
