PINKTOBER may be over, but the fight against breast cancer continues. During October, as part of its annual Southern Caribbean Pinktober Campaign, Sagicor not only raised awareness but also generated significant funds to support breast cancer initiatives across the region.
Breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of death for women worldwide, and the Caribbean region experiences a higher mortality rate compared to North America and Europe. Recognising the gravity of this issue, Sagicor committed to making a difference through its fundraising efforts.
Robert Trestrail, Group President and Chief Executive Officer for Sagicor Life Inc. said, “We are proud to continue our unwavering support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as it aligns with our commitment to making a positive impact in the communities we serve. This year, through the dedication of our team and the generosity of our partners, we successfully raised funds that have been donated to six remarkable organizations across the Caribbean. These organizations are at the forefront of providing vital support, education, and care, and we are honoured to contribute to their efforts in the fight against breast cancer.”
The recipients include:
Vitas House Hospice in Trinidad and Tobago is a key organization that provides compassionate end-of-life care for individuals with cancer. This is not the first time Sagicor is supporting this vital service, which is part of the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society.
Also benefitting is Breast Friends in Antigua and Barbuda, an organization dedicated to providing support for women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families, helping them navigate the challenges of their diagnosis. Faces of Cancer in St. Lucia, which, alongside the St. Lucia Cancer Society, supports cancer education, funding, and advocacy on the island. Their work is critical in providing resources to those affected by cancer. Stichting BOB Aruba, an organization committed to early breast cancer detection, also received funds as they work to ensure that more individuals can access life-saving screenings and timely care.
The fifth and final entity to receive financial support was Cancer Support Services (CSS) in Barbados, which offers a safe space for cancer patients and their families. They provide emotional support, confidential counselling, and a compassionate environment as they navigate the difficulties of cancer.
As a leading insurance and financial solutions provider, Sagicor understands the profound impact of illness on individuals and families. The company remains deeply committed to supporting causes that enhance the well-being of the communities in which it operates. Through its ongoing efforts, Sagicor is proud to continue making a tangible difference in the fight against breast cancer and to improve the lives of those affected by this disease.
