SLMDA Celebrates 20th Anniversary Annual Conference and Awards

THE Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA) will, this weekend, mark the 20th anniversary of its Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Conference, themed “Bridging the Gap in Healthcare.” This year’s landmark event will be held in collaboration with Stony Brook University.

The conference, which starts today and ends tomorrow, will be held at the Bay Gardens Hotel.

The conference brings together local physicians and healthcare personnel, Saint Lucian medical professionals from the diaspora as well as esteemed colleagues from collaborating institutions as presenters, attendees, and contributors to this vibrant exchange of medical insights, professional development and shared challenges in healthcare. The theme, “Bridging the Gap in Healthcare,” underscores the commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery across borders and building stronger healthcare systems for all.

In addition to celebrating 20 years of continued medical education, this year’s conference incorporates the SLMDA’s awards ceremony to recognise excellence and dedication in the field. Honour categories include Outstanding Physician, Outstanding Dentist, Outstanding Junior Physician, Outstanding Intern and Outstanding District Medical Officer Awards. Additionally, the inaugural Dr Martin Didier Visionary Physician Award will be presented, a tribute to the life and legacy of the late Dr. Martin Didier, a visionary physician whose lifelong dedication to medicine and compassion for his community left an indelible mark on healthcare in Saint Lucia.

Dr. Didier, who passed away earlier this year, inspired countless individuals through his pioneering work and remains a symbol of excellence and integrity in the medical field. This award will recognize a physician whose long-standing work embodies Dr. Didier’s commitment to service, innovation, and excellence.

The SLMDA, founded to advance healthcare and professional development in Saint Lucia, has been serving the nation’s medical community for over 20 years. Through education, advocacy, and community service, the Association remains dedicated to improving healthcare quality and supporting medical professionals in their mission to provide compassionate, effective patient care.

The SLMDA is deeply grateful for the collaboration with Stony Brook University, whose support has been integral to the success of this conference. Together, we are building a stronger healthcare foundation for Saint Lucia by bridging knowledge, expertise, and resources within our medical community.
