THIS season’s Under-19 Schools Netball competition continues to generate lots of excitement among the participants-with the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) team leading the charge.
The competition continued, on Thursday, with the St. Joseph’s Convent (SJC) competing for an opportunity to advance to the qualifiers.
In a Group A encounter, SJC got past the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (CCSS) 18-16 in a nail-biting win, at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex. Though CCSS led 7-5, 10-8, and 13-12 in the first three quarters, SJC resurged in the final 10 minutes to outscore CCSS 6-3 in the final quarter and win the game.
For SJC, Zuri Casimir scored 4 from 7 at Goal Shoot. Goal Attack – Naija Ferdinand scored 14 from 23 tries; while Goal Shoot- Luanna Joseph netted 7 from 10 attempts, and Goal Attack- Hailey Thomas scored 9 from 14 for CCSS.
SJC’s victory over CCSS positioned them in second place with 16 points. However, the blue and white outfit-clad SJC girls were anticipating Friday’s encounter between Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary on 15 points and Entrepot Secondary School in the cellar position to determine their standings.
Notably, SALCC has qualified from Group A with 25 points; while in Group B, Micoud Secondary (MSS) with 8 points and defending champions Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School (SCSS) with 15 points are through to the qualifiers.
Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School (LHCSS) won their second consecutive game in the competition by defeating SJC 22-19. Quarter scores: 1-4, 9-9, 13-15, 19-22.
For LHCSS, scorers were Goal Shoot Neanna Francois 13 from 21, and Goal Attack Jadah Prospere 9 from 13; while Goal Shoot Zuri Casimir 4 from 7, and Naija Ferdinand 15 from 27 scored for SJC.
The remaining preliminary round match, on Friday, featured LHCSS vs. Babonneau, at the VMPSC.
In other results, on Monday, CCSS made amends following their 25-19 defeat to LHCSS, by beating Babonneau Secondary School 17-10. Quarter scores: 6-0, 11-3, 13-5, 17-10. For CCSS, Goal Shoot Finella Albert is 10 from 15, and Goal Attack Hailey Thomas 7 from 12. Goal Shoot, Amia Jn Marie scored 4 from 5 attempts, Goal Attack Samara Edward netted 2 from 3, and Pheobe Constantine 4 from 7 for Babonneau.
On Wednesday, SALCC continued their unbeaten run, recording five wins to top Group A and qualify for the semifinals. In their final preliminary match, SALCC posted the highest goal average of the day, defeating Entrepot Secondary School 23-4. Quarter scores: 9-0, 15-0, 18-4, 23-4.
For SALCC, Goal Shoot Kaley Monlouis scored 10 from 12, Goal Attack Xennia Joseph scored 4 from 6, Goal Shoot Hailey Philomen scored 4 from 6, and Hailie Alexander scored 5 from 6. Goal Shoot, Joanella Thomas 1 from 1, and Pheonix Alcee 3 from 3 scored for Entrepot Secondary.
In a previous game, in Group A, SALCC defeated SJC 25-7. Quarter scores:11-5, 14-7, 22-7, 25-7.
For SALCC, GS: Kaley Monlouis netted 12 from 13 attempts, and GA, Xennia Joseph 13 from 16. Zuri Casimir 3 from 4 and Naija Ferdinand 4 from 12 scored for SJC.

LHCSS defeated CCSS 29-15. Quarter scores: 5-3, 10-6, 19-12, 29-15.
For LHCSS, GS- Leanna Francois scored 25 from 36 attempts, and GA- Jada Prospere 4 from 7. GS- Joseph 6 from 9 and GA- Hailey Thomas 9 from 11 netted for CCSS.
