De Andre Calderon emerged victorious in the Regional My Smart Toilet Seat Table Tennis Series held last weekend in St. Vincent & the Grenadines (SVG).
The competition featured some tough opponents as Saint Lucia’s leading table tennis player and Junior Sportsman of the Year took to the stage.
Interestingly, despite winning a bronze medal in the Junior category, 19-year-old Calderon went on to secure gold in the Senior group.
In the senior final, Calderon advanced from the Round of 16 by defeating Trinidad & Tobago’s Selwyn Sinnette with scores of 11-4, 11-3, 11-5, and 11-5. He then eliminated SVG’s Damion Dublin in the quarterfinals with a score of 11-8, 11-1, 11-6, and 11-3.
Next, Calderon faced T&T’s Derron Douglas in the semifinals, securing a win with scores of 11-5, 6-11, 12-10, 11-6, and 11-3.
In the final, he triumphed over Barbados’ Trevor Farley with scores of 11-5, 11-4, 10-12, 11-7, 10-12, and 11-6, capturing the regional Seniors title.
In the Junior category, Calderon reached the quarterfinals by defeating Barbados’ Mdjai Collymore with scores of 11-4, 11-3, 11-2, and 11-9. He then faced the eventual winner, T&T’s Douglas, in the semifinals but lost in a close match that went 4-3, with scores of 9-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-5, 9-11, 12-10, and 10-12.
In the third-place playoff, Calderon showcased his skills by winning over Lamont Gregg with scores of 11-2, 11-2, 11-2, and 11-6.
