Chief Fire Officer Recognizes Contribution of Female Fire Fighters

The Department of Home Affairs stands in support and celebration of women in the protective services and all its agencies including Probation and Parole Services, the Bordelais Correctional Facility, the Saint Lucia Fire Service, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force and the Head Office.

International Women’s Day 2024, under the theme of ‘Investing in women: Accelerating progress” places the spotlight on the essential and inseparable roles of decent work and gender equality.

Chief Fire Officer Mr. Ditney Downes has expressed his high regard for the invaluable contribution of the cadre of female fire fighters within the Saint Lucia Fire Service.

While speaking of their contribution in glowing terms, Mr. Downes highlighted that female fire fighters are exposed to the same rigorous training as their male counterparts. He noted that they have registered comparable recognition having maintained a high standard of excellence and hard work.

The CFO also extends best wishes to all retired female fire officers on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2024. He remarked that they are appreciated for their legacy of teamwork, loyalty and e’spirt du corps which laid the foundation for the current crop of fire fighters.
