World Tourism Day 2023

.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has designated Wednesday 27th September 2023 as World Tourism Day under the theme: “Tourism and Green Investments”.

A ministry official noted that, given the importance of the theme to tourism development, the UNWTO has acknowledged the importance of investments as one of the key priorities for the recovery and future growth and development of the tourism sector.

The UNWTO also emphasizes the need for a more focused approach to traditional and non-traditional investments, to enable tourism to fulfill its potential of increasing opportunities for people, building resiliency, accelerating climate action, fostering greater sustainability, innovation and technology, enhance education and skills, deliver inclusive prosperity through entrepreneurship and bolster green transformation (transforming business practices to accelerate growth).

In ensuring widespread public awareness of this year’s World Tourism Day, the Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information will officially launch its calendar of activities for the week of 24th -30th September 2023, which will incorporate the collaboration of various tourism private and public sector partners.

The Ministry of Tourism urges everyone to take part in World Tourism Week 2023 and support the movement for a more sustainable, socially inclusive tourism sector that benefits all Saint Lucians.
