The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) Board of Governors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Madgerie Jameson-Charles as principal, on a three-year contract, effective August 1, 2023.
According to SALCC, Dr. Jameson-Charles has been an educator for almost 40 years, having received her teacher training at the institute.
She is the holder of a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology (from The University of the West Indies), a Master of Education degree in Education for Employment (from the University of Sheffield, U.K), and a PhD in in Education, Learning and Instruction in Higher Education (from the University of Otago, New Zealand). She is also a Certified Hospitality Department Trainer from the Education International, American Hotel and Lodging.
Before joining the SALCC family, Dr. Jameson-Charles served for more than a decade in various roles at the School of Education of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, including as a lecturer in Fundamentals of Education Research, Educational Psychology, Cognition and Learning and Health and Family Life Education. She was also the Coordinator of the Master of Arts programme in Technical Vocational Education and Leadership.
She most recently held the post of Coordinator of the Post Graduate Diploma for TVET Teachers. Her research interests include making transitions, high-stakes testing, youth development, teacher education, and learning and instruction in higher education. She has written extensively on issues in education, employment, and personal development, among other subjects.
The Board of SALCC believes that Dr. Jameson-Charles’ stellar scholarship and extensive and varied exposure at different levels of the education spectrum will serve the College in good stead as it aims to transition to University status.
